Schools provide an important context for children to develop emotional and social skills. Children and adults in learning communities need to be able to navigate strong emotions, stay focused and engaged, respond appropriately to others, and use emotions to motivate themselves and others.
Emotional intelligence (EI) is the capacity teachers need to effectively teach social and emotional learning (SEL) and model for their students the ability to navigate strong emotions, stay focused and engaged, respond appropriately to others, and use emotions to motivate themselves and others, even when under stress.
My interactive, and responsive professional development trainings are designed to build SEL skills in the adults in children’s lives in order that they can be successful learners and engaged citizens. In order to effectively teach SEL, the adults must develop and embody these skills.
